Technology Is About Eye Health

Modern optometry is no longer just about seeing clearly. It’s about protecting vision before problems become permanent. By incorporating diagnostic technology into routine, comprehensive eye exams, our practice can detect subtle changes in the eyes long before noticeable symptoms appear. This allows for an earlier diagnosis and timely intervention to help prevent irreversible vision or functional loss.

Not only does this technology help us provide more detailed care, but it also helps you take a proactive role in your eye health. Rather than reacting to vision loss, we are actively screening, monitoring, and protecting long-term visual function and health. You play an important role in prevention by attending routine appointments and following the lifestyle advice recommended by your optometrist.

Technology Is About Prevention

Through diagnostic technologies such as high-resolution retinal imaging, OCT scans, visual field testing, digital monitoring systems, and our dry eye treatment technologies, we can:

  • Identify early signs of dry eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and other sight-threatening conditions
  • Track microscopic structural changes over time and with precision
  • Monitor progression objectively, rather than waiting for noticeable vision decline
  • Intervene sooner due to an earlier diagnosis when treatments are most effective
  • Personalize care plans based on measurable data

Preventative and proactive eye care means preserving independence, quality of life, and health.

Our Diagnostic
Technology

Our diagnostic technologies allow us to quickly and accurately determine your current prescription, screen for various eye conditions, and measure the anatomy of your eye for contact lenses. This technology is noninvasive, meaning it does not touch your eye, and most devices capture the data necessary as if you’re just looking at a camera lens.

By using these diagnostic devices, we make your eye care experience simpler and more comfortable, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

An autorefractometer and keratometer provide an objective measurement of your refractive error, or how near- or farsighted each eye is. It also measures cornea and pupil diameter measurements and the curvature of your eye to precisely fit contact lenses.

OCT scans use light waves to map the layers of your eye. They produce a cross-sectional image that shows the thickness of your retinal layers, which allows us to monitor for eye diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other retinal or optic nerve conditions.

Fundus photography captures the back of the inside of your eye, called the fundus. This retinal imaging technique provides a high-resolution image that shows the retina, blood vessels, and optic nerve head, an important part of monitoring your eye health.

The Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer by ZEISS objectively measures your visual field. That includes the entire area your eyes can see while fixed on a central point, or both your central and peripheral vision. This is an important test for glaucoma.

The slit lamp biomicroscope allows our optometrists to inspect the front surface of your eye and your tear glands. Combined with an imaging system, the digital slit lamp also captures vivid images to aid with diagnostics.

Meibography captures images of the meibomian glands. These tiny glands line the eyelids and play a critical role in maintaining a balanced and healthy tear film. Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which can be identified through meibography, is the leading cause of dry eye.

Quickly and accurately measures the prescription of your current glasses, and the level of UV protection they provide.

Our Dry Eye
Technology

Our dry eye treatment technologies provide comfortable, energy-based options to relieve dry eye symptoms and target the root of your discomfort. The treatments we recommend will be based on a thorough examination of your eyes, tear film, and tear glands, including meibography.

We provide in-office treatment sessions of IPL, radiofrequency (RF), and LED light therapy to reduce inflammation, promote healing, and improve the function of the meibomian glands, which are responsible for slowing tear evaporation.

Click on each device to learn more about how it works and what causes of dry eye it helps treat.

IPL can help treat meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, and ocular rosacea, which can all contribute to dry eye symptoms.

Lumecca IPL uses targeted light pulses to reduce inflammation and gently melt oil buildup in the meibomian glands. This helps restore the flow of oil to your tear film, preventing rapid evaporation and soothing dry eyes.

Radiofrequency (RF) treatment uses safe, controlled energy waves to gently heat the skin around your eyes.

The Forma-I device was designed specifically for dry eye. It targets meibomian gland function, improves oil flow to your tear film, and promotes collagen production for healthier, firmer skin around the eyes.

IPL can help treat meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, and ocular rosacea, which can all contribute to dry eye symptoms.

The Lumenis M22 IPL device uses Optimal Pulse Technology (OPTTM) to deliver light energy at a controlled pulse shape by equalizing energy distribution with sequential pulses to gently heat the skin, reduce inflammation, and melt any oil blockages in the meibomian glands.

The TempSure Envi is a radiofrequency (RF) platform designed to target meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

RF gently heats the skin around the eyes using energy waves. This helps to melt any oil blockages in the meibomian glands and restore healthy tear production. It also promotes collagen production, which results in smoother, tighter skin around your eyes. This can improve eyelid laxity for more complete blinks.

LED light therapy, or low-level light therapy (LLLT), uses specific light wavelengths to promote healing, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation. This aids in healthy tear production to relieve dry eye symptoms.

NuLIDS PRO is a gentle massaging and exfoliation tool used to clean the margins of your eyelid, removing debris and blockages commonly found in cases of meibomian gland dysfunction and blepharitis, which includes a buildup of bacteria and Demodex mites along the lash line.
